NEW! Two Japanese
Caterpillars
Enjoy keeping
these two types of Japanese caterpillars together!
They are
unusual because they have four long crinkly black hairs near their heads! These
disappear as the caterpillars grow larger. They both eat green privet leaves
(found on privet hedges, or we can post Fresh Cut Privet to you).
These
caterpillars will continue to grow over the next few weeks and need to eat
fresh privet leaves daily. They should be kept in clean conditions and so
change the cage liner every day or so.
These Japanese caterpillars do
well in a large airy cage such as the Bug Studio Professional.
After a
few weeks they transform into pupae and should emerge as winged adults in
Spring 2009. Being Japanese, they must not be released outdoors.
Two medium-sized Japanese caterpillars are sent (one of each
type), together with care instructions. |

British Stripey Snail Kit
These British
Stripey Snails are active and colourful! (They are not to be confused with
the common brown garden snails).
British Stripey Snails are easy to
keep, eating Weetabix and hen eggshells (for calcium).
Keep the snails
in the plastic Snail Centre supplied. Line its floor with a soft washable Snail
Centre Liner; these are cushioned so that if a snail falls, it will not crack
its shell open. Fill the shallow water dish so that the snails can drink cold
water.
The British Stripey Snail Kit contains:
- Three British Stripey Snails
- One Snail Centre
- 2 soft Snail Centre Liners
- One Water Dish
- One information sheet

Indian Stick Insect Egg Kit
Have the thrill
of seeing stick insects hatch! Usually you would need to wait months to see
hatchlings but we send eggs out that are due to hatch within
weeks! An identity label is included with the eggs showing the date that
the eggs were laid.
Ten eggs are sent
and most will hatch. They are the Indian variety, Carausius
morosus, which is an easy-to-keep type, ideal for people just starting the
hobby. Full details on Indian stick insects are in Dorothy Floyd's book
"Keeping Stick Insects" which is also included in this kit.
Keep the eggs in the see-through QBOX
supplied. When they hatch, add a slightly wet bramble or privet leaf. Look
after the baby stick insects in the QBOX for next three weeks. (Keep the QBOX
clean using a Liner, replaced daily.) After this time the stick insects will
shed their skins around this time and double in size! They should then be
transferred to a large well-ventilated cage, such as the Bug Studio
Professional , Bug-Cage or the Bug-XL-Cage.
The Egg Kit contains:
- Ten Indian stick insect eggs (due to
hatch within weeks)
- One QBOX
- 32 QBOX Liners
- "Keeping Stick Insects" book by
Dorothy Floyd
- One information sheet explaining about
stick insect eggs
- One general stick insect information
sheet
