| FEEDING |
|
| |
Giant African Land Snails eat the following: carrot peelings,
potato peelings, cucumber slices, courgette slices, red pepper slices, avocado
slices and dandelion leaves. It is best to avoid supermarket lettuce because of
the pesticide residues (home grown lettuce is fine). Giant African Land Snails
need extra calcium to help their shells grow and the best source of this is
empty hen eggshells (rinsed out with water). Cuttlefish is best avoided because
of its high salt content. |
| HOUSING |
|

|
Giant African Land Snails do best in a plastic container. It is
important to line the floor with a Soft Liner that will cushion the snail
should it fall. This is because a snail can break its shell if it lands on a
hard surface. The Professional Snail Centre is ideal for Giant African Land
Snails. |
| HANDLING |
|
 |
Giant African Land Snails can be handled. It is best to lift the
snail by gently pulling its shell backwards. Avoid touching the edge of the
shell because this is the area of new shell growth and is easily damaged.
|
| TEMPERATURE |
|
 |
Snails do not need heated cages. They do well in a room
that is comfortably warm in the day and cooler at night. Avoid putting the
container on a windowsill as the snail may overheat in the summer and get too
cold in the winter. |
| WATER |
Snails need a shallow dish of clean cold tap water to drink from.
