We have designed the Professional Snail Centre XL as ideal housing for large Giant African Land Snails (Achatina fulica). The clever base ventilation system and absorbent Liners prevents the awful gloop and dirty conditions that occur when snails this size are kept in tanks.
Giant African Land Snails are active in the Professional Snail Centre XL. You can easily see the snails sliding up the clear sides and resting under the clear roof. Place the soft Liners on the floor; these absorb excess moisture and help cushion the impact of a snail should it fall, thereby protecting its shell from being damaged. Replace the soft Liners as necessary.
Place the food on the soft Liner. Giant African Land Snails eat assorted vegetable peelings; include as wide a range as possible because a varied diet promotes a patterned shell. Snails need extra calcium to help their shells grow and so rinsed out hen eggshells are ideal. Try to put large pieces of eggshell in the centre; do not crush it up.
Large Giant African Land Snails regularly tip over Water Dishes and so the yellow base of the Professional Snail Centre XL incorporates a moat which should be filled with cold tap water. The snails can not tip this up.
Two foil trays are supplied; these can be filled with vegetable peelings or, if you fill the foil tray with John Innes compost, or soil from the garden, the snails will bury their eggs in there.
You can access the Professional Snail Centre XL via the top lid. Once a week, the whole centre needs a wash in warm water with a squirt of Snail Centre Cleaner added. This is much more effective than washing-up liquid and by using a soft sponge it is easy to remove the slime. You can dismantle the centre or just lift the main part up, leaving the yellow bases behind.
The Professional Snail Centre XL is 57cm (22½ ") wide x 24½ cm (9½") deep x 31cm (12") high. The base tiles are 61cm (24") x 30½ cm (12"). The sides and lid are made from crystal clear strong PVC and the yellow bases are tough moulded plastic. The glossy white base tiles are easy to wipe clean. Giant African Land Snails like to group together and up to six adults can be kept Professional Snail Centre XL.
When your snails have laid eggs, the baby snails can be kept in the Baby Snail Centre.
